Self Care

Posted by Lisa Elsworth on

So today I want to talk about self care, After a conversation with my mum on the way to meditation class last night I have made the decision to treat myself like a plant! Now before you close down this page thinking what a crazy lady she is, I'd love you to hear me out!

We all could use a reminder to take a little time for ourselves right? So my suggestion to you today is to love and care for yourself as you would a small plant that sits on your windowsill. Now I never got the whole caring for your plants thing and used to think my mum was a little crazy, she used to leave all the house plants in the bath with soft music playing for them, Well it turns out she isn't actually that crazy and infact playing music to plants actually works -, it is something to do with the vibrations created by the sound waves. In simple terms, the vibrations produce movement in the plant cells, which stimulates the plant to produce more nutrients.

Your mind is like a garden and you are the gardener!
If you want to have a beautiful garden, then you have to take care of it regularly.  You are the only person who chooses what kinds of plants, fruits, and crops to grow in your garden. You can choose to either cultivate a beautiful and abundant garden, or a wasteland of weeds and rotten fruit. It is the same thing with your mind, If you want to have a beautiful mind, you need to take care of it regularly. Bach Flower remedies have been known to be of great benefit.

Plant the right seeds and regularly wipe out the weeds - What seeds are you planting?

We often forget to take care of our minds in a world so concerned with body. Your mind is beautiful and wonderful and unique, but it needs to be taken care of.

Take time to nurture it.

Here is a list of things that I now regularly do to nurture my soul:
  • Take walks in nature and notice everything.
  • Engage in creative art eg. create a dream board or scrapbook from your favourite photos.
  • Sing in the shower, the car, the bedroom, everywhere!
  • Put on some music and dance.
  • Read a good fictional book.
  • Savor every bite of your meal.
  • Meditate in serene surroundings.
  • Soak in a bubble bath.
  • Bake a cake (my current fave)
  • Watch a comedy. Laugh!
  • Write poetry.
  • Do a random act of kindness.
  • Daydream.
  • Buy yourself something nice

I believe that our energy can be influenced by the energy surrounding us,It just makes sense to surround yourself with things that lift you up instead of lowering your energy, which is why I treated myself to these beauties.

  • Great blog Lisa. Working my way through your list. Struggling a bit to find comedies to watch, they don’t make them like they used to …now I sound like my Dad 😂😂 Used to love Morcambe and Wise, Only Fools and Horses, Rising Damp but there doesn’t seem anything current to equal these classics. Enjoying the dancing around the house though, always lifts my mood. Take care x
