The Earth Hand –also known as the practical hand

This is a Square palm with short strong fingers.  It will have a hard palm with firm flesh. The major lines should be well marked, but there may be fewer minor lines visible. This shows someone who is stable, reliable, well grounded, and honest.  They would be a very uncomplicated and straightforward person.  People would most likely call upon them first in an emergency.  They make excellent parents, and are a committed spouse.  Whichever profession they choose they will be very capable, but this person will really enjoy working with their hands, and would make good gardeners as they have a strong attraction towards nature, and would probably make their home in the countryside.  They would also make good surgeons.  Deceit is not in their nature, even more so if born under the earth signs of Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn.

The Air Hand – also known as the intellectual hand

This is a square palm with longer fingers. It will be dry but soft. Major lines will be clearly marked, but not as deep as the earth hand. This person will be clever but not emotional.  They would rather thrash out a problem rather than let it simmer.  Because they need mental stimulation they will thrive under pressure, it would suit them to work as a teacher or journalist.  Air hands excel in communication, especially if they were born under the air signs of Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius.

The Fire Hand – also known as the extroverts hand

A fairly long oblong palm, with shorter fingers that will be firm, warm and springy. With good prominent lines clearly marked. The combination of short fingers and a long palm indicates an emotional lack of balance, and a tendency to act and judge on pure instinct.  With a quickness towards likes and dislikes. This person can be outgoing, creative, and changeable.  They will most certainly be the life and soul at social gatherings, are excellent leaders and instinct tells them to take charge. These tendencies are increased if born under a fire sigh such as Aries Leo or Sagittarius

The Water Hand – also know as the sensitive hand

A long palm with fingers that are longer than the palm.  It will be soft and damp.  Thinly marked major lines, with lots of fine lines across the palm. The person with a water hand will be emotional, and easily hurt, unworldly and trusting, they could be seen as easy prey.  It will be important for them to have some kind of spiritual belief. They may have a flair for things such as painting, dancing, or music.  They will not be very practical, but are capable of great compassion.  They will be even more sensitive if born under the water signs of Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.

The Seven Levels of the Aura

The Etheric Layer ( First Layer)

The Etheric Body (from “Ether”, the state between energy and matter) is composed of tiny energy lines like a sparkling web of bluish white light beams. It has the same structure as the physical body including all the anatomical parts and all the organs. The web like structure of the Etheric Layer is in constant motion. It extends from one quarter to two inches beyond the physical body. The colour of the Etheric Layer varies from light blue to deep blue.

The Emotional Layer (Second Layer)

The structure of the Emotional Layer is more fluid that the Etheric and does not duplicate the physical body. Rather, it appears to be coloured clouds of fine substance in continual fluid motion, which expresses the full spectrum of our emotions. It extends one to three inches from the body.

The Mental Layer (Third layer)

This layer is composed of a finer substance than the emotional body and usually appears as a bright yellow light radiating about the head and shoulders and extending from three to eight inches around the whole body. It contains the structure of our ideas and from within this field can be seen thought forms.

The Astral Layer (Fourth Layer)

The Astral Layer is amorphous and composed of clouds of colour. It extends about one half to one foot from the body. It connects us with the higher dimensions of reality and is the doorway to the astral plane.

The Etheric Template (Fifth Layer)

The Etheric Template contains all the forms that exist on the physical plane. It is the blueprint of the perfect form for the Etheric Layer to take. It extends approximately one and a half to two feet from the body. The Etheric template level of the aura creates an empty or negative space that creates the grid structure upon which the physical body grows, appearing as clear or transparent lines on a cobalt blue background

The Celestial Body (Sixth Layer)

The sixth level is called the Celestial Body and extends two to two and three-quarter feet from the body.  It is through the Celestial Body that we experience spiritual ecstasy and learn unconditional love. The Celestial Body appears in beautiful shimmering light, composed mostly of pastel colours. This light has a gold-silver shine and opalescent quality.

The Causal Body (Seventh Level)

The Causal Body extends two and one half to three and one half feet from the body and contains all the auric bodies associated with the present incarnation an individual is undergoing. The Causal Body is composed of tiny golden silver threads of light that hold the whole form of the aura together. It contains a golden grid structure of the physical body and all the chakras.

ADDITIVE PRIMARY COLOURS

Additive colour involves light emitted directly from a source or illuminant of some sort. The additive reproduction process usually uses red, green and blue light to produce the other colours.  Combining one of these additive primary colours with another in equal amounts produces the additive secondary colours of cyan, magenta and yellow. Combining all three primary lights (colours) in equal intensities produces white.

Red + Green + Blue = White

primary colours

If we add two of the primary colours together a secondary colour is produced.  For example:
•    RED + GREEN = YELLOW
•    GREEN + BLUE = CYAN
•    RED + BLUE = MAGENTA

These additive secondary colours are, in fact, the names of colours used as subtractive primaries.  Mixing different amounts or intensities of the additive primaries together can make almost all colours.
Some of the colours that can be produced by mixing the additive primaries together do not appear in the rainbow, for example: pink, magenta and purple.

ROSE (ABSOLUTE: ROSA DAMASCENE MILL)

As mentioned in Part One of our aromatherapy course Rose is one of the more expensive of the essential oils due to its method of extraction – Enfleurage; that is also why it is called an Absolute.  As a by-product of the Enfleurage process rosewater is produced too. A drop of Rose in the massage blend is sufficient as it has a potent perfume.

The Rose is considered to be the ‘Queen of Flowers’ and Rose is thought to be the ‘Queen of Essential Oils’. The Rose is thought to be influenced by Venus; it is therefore the oil of choice for the female reproductive system due to its feminine affinity.
Rose is attributed to be cleansing, purifying, regulating and a tonic. Rose essential oil is also invaluable for women who are anxious, sad and depressed.
Rose essential oil is also useful for women who have an irregular menstrual cycle, to lessen loss during menstruation, to aid in conception and the French Rose in particular is considered to be aphrodisiac in nature.

As can be seen by the variety of skin products available in the shops which contain Rose in the ingredients, Rose is a very good oil for skincare particularly dry, sensitive or ageing skin. It can reduce thread veins on the face if used for a long period (around two months).

part of paid luna image
Many shop bought products use Rose oils that are synthetic and chemically produced so it may be to your advantage to make your creams yourself and add a drop or two of the ‘real product’. Although initially expensive the bottle of Rose essential oil will go a long way.
Rosewater is available from many chemists and health shops. It has a subtle perfume and is soothing, antiseptic and a tonic for the skin.

Sometimes the crystals you are drawn to may not feel good, or a stone that previously felt good may not now. The crystal may need to be cleared. Cleansing the crystal is necessary before using any of them for healing purposes. The clearer the energy of a healing stone, the more powerful it is.crystal

When you first purchase your crystals or healing gemstones, they should be cleansed as soon as purchased and before healing. After every healing they also need to be cleansed, just like a doctor using surgical tools, they must be kept clean. Once the crystal has been cleansed it will feel positive and bright, tingly and cold to the touch. A crystal that needs clearing may feel hot, heavy or drained. There are a number of ways to effectively clear your crystals or gemstones, choose which ever way suits you best.

Salt Water

An excellent source for cleaning your stones, especially clear quartz. Place your crystals in a bowl of salt water, (preferable made up of a sea salt solution) and rinse under cold water. Do not use hot water as this can fracture or break your crystals. This is one of the simplest and quickest ways.

Smudging

This is also a quick way to cleanse your healing stones. Simply hold the smudge stick using cedar or sage. Pass your stick over the stones a few times. You can buy readymade smudge sticks or make your own.

Moonlight

Simply place outside from the Full to the New Moon. Waning moons are also a good time to clear crystals, to dispel old energies, but any time works. The amount of time used varies with the healer and the amount of material from which the stones need cleansing. If you are using gemstone necklaces, then try hanging them from a tree where the moonlight can cleanse them.

Herbs

You could also bury your crystal in a cupful of dried herbs. Suggested herbs for this method are rose petals, sage, sandalwood are just a few. These are usually low cost and are a gentle way to clear crystals and a pleasant way; however, it does take longer than the salt method.

Fire Method

Ideal if you are born under a fire sign, this method will suit you well. Surround your crystals with night-lights or T lights and leave them in the centre whilst the candles burn. Leave until they have burnt out.

Flower Method

This is a simple method, and quite fun. Gather a few flowers or petals and place them in a clear glass container or jar. Cover your crystals under the flowers or petals and leave them for a minimum of 24 hours. Try and choose flowers with a similar colour to the crystal or stone you are cleansing, for example lavender would be helpful for purple amethyst.

Hopi Ear Candling is an ancient treatment that has been used for thousands of years and today continues to be widely used by practitioners to treat a range of issues. On the surface of it, Hopi ear candles regulate ear pressure and loosen and remove excess wax from the ear canal, yet by doing so, they are able to effectively treat a number of conditions such as headaches / migraines, sinusitis, tinnitus and allergic rhinitis.
hopi ear candles
The candling treatment helps to rebalance the pressure in and around the eardrum, soothing and calming many symptoms. The process of Hopi candling involves a specially designed hollow candle being inserted just inside the ear canal. The candle is then lit and the suction that is formed draws the impurities from within the ear. This process is known as ‘the chimney effect’. The rising air gives the ear drum a gentle massage and also helps to regulate ear pressure. A small amount of ear wax may also be removed during the treatment.

If you would like to learn how to do hopi ear candling from the comfort of your own home so that you may offer these treatments to your clients, (no previous knowledge or experience is needed) then click here for more details of how to obtain your accredited diploma in hopi ear candling:

COLOUR MEDITATION
Colour can be used to focus and still the mind for meditation. The Tibetans used a Mandela, a pattern of harmonious shapes, symbols and colours, on which one can contemplate. Crystals can also be used for meditation and placing a clear quartz crystal over a filter on a light box produces a beautiful relaxing light. Meditation is a wonderful tool for stilling the restless mind, concerned with our daily activities, and gives us the opportunity of looking and listening to our higher mind. We all have inner wisdom and all the knowledge we need for our time on earth but we rarely communicate with our inner soul which will guide and protect us in all that we need to know and do. The following meditation is wonderful to do each morning, connecting you to all the coloured rays. You can, of course, develop your own meditations concentrating on a single or on several colours.
Work with visualisations in colour when you wish to relax: visualise a peaceful scene, perhaps walking through the woods by a stream in as much colour detail as possible. Visualise the colours of the sunrise and sunset: practising visualising in colour helps to strengthen your subconscious attunement to colour.
You can also inhale each colour in turn, starting with red. Fill your diaphragm with air while focusing on the colour and slowly exhale, sending the colour throughout your body. Breathe in each colour three or four times, resting in between colours to note how the colour affects you.
RAINBOW MEDITATION
Imagine yourself totally surrounded by white light. Breathe this light into every cell and tissue in your body, until you become one with the light.
Next you see waves of colour coming up from the earth. At first you experience a wave of brilliant red, the colour of blood, rising through your feet and legs entering into your base chakra. Feel it warming you as it rises to the sacral centre. It now becomes orange, the colour of the sun at sunset. You start to feel more relaxed and your breathing becomes free and easy. As the wave of colour rises into your solar-plexus you feel it empowering you and radiating from your centre. You now feel the lower three chakras connected and receiving energy from the earth.
Now focus on the heart and draw in the beautiful green of creativity and growth. You are reminded that you are connected to all living things, the plants and trees, animals, your family and all mankind. Your heart goes out to all these things and you feel a great love for the earth itself. You feel harmony, tranquillity and peace. You can relax and trust in the process of life.
As you draw your attention up to the throat centre you look at the sky, feeling the cleansing blue rays entering your throat, purifying your words. It reminds you of the vastness of the spirit and sky. The blue starts to darken and becomes the indigo ray which enters your sixth chakra, or third eye. This gives you the ability to see inner truth. It is the colour of high ideals and wisdom. Finally the violet ray pours down, entering your crown chakra and connecting you to the universe. You feel both connected to the sky and the earth. You are of spirit and body. Through this realisation you undergo transformation for this is the gate to enlightenment.

meditating
The unique properties of the cosmic coloured rays are your keys to knowledge and wisdom. By understanding the powers which surround you, you are also able to understand the powers within you.
Slowly let the violet fade and a great feeling of peace and tranquillity descends over you. When you are ready, slowly move your toes and fingers and open your eyes.
These meditations, practiced on a regular basis, will gradually bring awareness to your physical and etheric state, bringing a sense of wholeness, wellness and balance to your whole being.

The word Reiki means free passage of Universal Life Force Energy. Reiki is a Japanese word, represented by the characters below. In the Chinese character system, Reiki is Leiki. Both Reiki and Leiki originate in Tibet. Pronounced Ray key. The symbol is Japanese “kanji” or character for the word “Reiki”.

The syllable rei in Japanese means spirit, ghost and soul. In Chinese, the syllable lei, means subtle influences, the force, ethereal and supernatural power. Rei can be interpreted as “free passage”.

The syllable Ki means life force energy (as in Aikido). In Chinese, life force energy is called chi, in India, prana. There are many names for life force energy; each culture has its own.

The History Of Reiki

Reiki, originating from the words, raku-kei, is the art and science of spiritual self-improvement.

Reiki originated in ancient Tibet thousands of years ago. The Reiki calligraphy, in Sanskrit, was used in meditation in Tibetan monasteries. Reiki symbols were painted upon large wall hangings in the monasteries and acted as the centre focus in the practices toward enlightenment by Tibetan holy men.

A Tibetan Lama would sit on a four-legged wooden stool in the centre of an oval earthenware container (to represent the etheric egg) filled with three inches of water.

The stool was made of wood with pure silver inlay going up a channel in each of the stools legs, connecting a silver plate inlay upon the stools’ seat. On the silver plate, inlaid in amethyst and rubies, was the Master Frequency Symbol. In front of the stool was a mirror of polished copper. Behind the stool hung a tapestry containing the Lamas’ prayer and the Reiki symbols.

The symbols were reflected in the copper wall, and meditated upon by the Lama as he sat on the stool. The Tibetan Lama concentrated on the Reiki symbols to implant them deep into his subconscious, thereby purifying the body/mind, raising consciousness, and increasing awareness.

Dr. Mikao Usui – 1865 –1926

 Dr usui

What is now called Reiki was re-discovered in the 1870’s by Dr. Mikao Usui.

As the story goes, his students asked Dr. Usui, the president of a small Christian university in Japan, “How did Christ heal?” This question led Dr. Usui to resign from his University position and begin a ten-year search for the answer.

His quest led him to many parts of the world to study in many different languages, and finally to the original Sanskrit Buddhist Sutras, where he found ancient symbols that he believed to be the formula for healing.

At this point, Dr Usui felt he had the keys to healing, but did not know how to awaken his healing power. He decided to go to a mountain and meditate for 21 days, to seek the power to heal. On the final day, Dr Usui saw a beam of light rushing toward him, the light struck him in the middle of his forehead and at that moment he saw the Reiki symbols and felt them enter his mind and memory.

Dr Usui spent the rest of his life sharing Reiki. Before his death, Dr. Usui passed the keys of Reiki over to his close associate, Dr Chijiro Hayashi, who ran a Reiki clinic in the early 1900’s in Japan.
Hawayo Takata- 1900 –1980

Mrs. Hayayo Takata who was born on the island of Hawaii in 1900 and lived in the Hawaiian Islands until 1970 brought Reiki to Hawaii in 1934.

Hawayo_Takata

In March 1917 she married Saichi Takata, the book- keeper of the plantation where she was employed. They had two daughters together before he died aged 34 in Tokyo where he had gone for lung cancer treatment.

After this Takata worked hard to support her family on her own and this contributed to her suffering from lung problems, a variety of serious gastrointestinal ailments and severe depression actually leading to a nervous breakdown. In her mid-thirties, with Mrs Takata widowed and very ill, she travelled to Japan to seek treatment.  She was diagnosed with several life threatening conditions including gallstones, and a tumour. She was given some weeks to recuperate from emphysema before being admitted for surgery for appendicitis and other gastrointestinal problems. On the operating table, just before the surgery was to begin she heard a voice. The voice said, “The operation is not necessary. The operation is not necessary”. She had never heard a voice speak to her like this before. She wondered what it meant. The voice repeated the message a 3rd time even louder.

She knew she was wide-awake and had not imagined the voice. It was so unusual, yet so compelling that she decided to ask the doctor. She got off the operating table, wrapped a sheet around herself and asked to speak to the doctor. She asked the chief surgeon about non-surgical alternatives and was given the address of the clinic near the emperor’s palace run by Dr. Chujiro.

While she was there, she was guided to Dr. Hayashi’s clinic and was healed with Reiki.  She received daily treatments and got progressively better. In four months, she was completely healed. Impressed with the results she wanted to learn Reiki. She studied Reiki for a year in Japan and later was made a Reiki Master (one who can fine tune or empower others with Reiki energy). Mrs Takata spent the rest of her life sharing Reiki with others and in 1970 she moved to California and began to train other masters, until her death in 1980
